Liu Yan 刘燕

Pipa performer and educator. Bachelor degree graduant of China Conservatory of Music.

Currently, she is the Pipa Society Singapore Chairperson and the Editor-in-chief of the pipa textbook for the Chinese Instrumental Examination in NUS Cultural Centre, NUS Quintet member as well as Instructor for the gifted pipa program in the Junior Art Department in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Liu Yan is also the pipa Instructor for NTU, NUS and many other secondary and primary institutions in Singapore.

During her four years in university, she learned from several professional and famous pipa and guzheng’s instructors that had helped her build up a strong foothold in the two instruments. As a member of All China Federation of Trade Union’s Song and Dance Ensemble and NUS Quintet, she staged various pipa solo and group performances all over the world. In 1997, Liu Yan wowed the audience when she performed concerto “Mulan” with Singapore Armed Forces’ Chinese Orchestra. From there, her educator’s journey began. Liu Yan has also been invited twice to be the judge for Malaysia’s Chinese Orchestra Competition.

刘燕，琵琶演奏家、教育家。毕业于中国音乐学院，现任新加坡琵琶学会会长、新加坡国立大学艺术中心华乐考级琵琶教材主编、南洋艺术学院教师。目前也在新加坡国立大学、南洋理工大学及多间学校华乐团担任弹拨乐声部指导。

大学四年，刘燕先后跟随著名琵琶教育家李景侠教授、王范地教授进行了严密而系统的学习；同时也向著名古筝教育家邱大成教授、李婉芬教授选修古筝教学法。有多位名师的悉心栽培，为她日后从事演奏与教学打下了牢固的基础。

刘燕大学毕业之后进入中国全总歌舞团，其间曾随团出访许多国家，同时参加一些国家如日本京都主办的国际民间音乐节等。作为“心韵五重奏”的主要成员，她曾随重奏组到马来西亚砂劳越参加2005年国际音乐节开幕礼演出；远赴瑞士苏黎世参与ETH大学成立150周年庆典演出；同时也参与了南非的国际艺术节、赴博茨瓦纳、毛里求斯、Gabarone演出，呈现重奏与琵琶独奏。

十几年来，她将心血倾注在教学上，可谓硕果累累、桃李满天下。她培养的学生遍布新马各地，学生们多次在新加坡国家艺术理事会主办的全国华乐比赛及中国、香港、台湾、澳门、美国等地举办的华乐比赛中获奖。刘燕也曾两度受邀担任马来西亚华乐比赛评判。由她担任会长的新加坡琵琶学会，自成立以来，已经举办了多场琵琶专场音乐会，邀请专家举办讲座、与其他音乐团体合作表演等等，艺术活动从未间断，为推动琵琶艺术在新马等地的普及发展，做出了积极的贡献。
